Desiree began her solo performance career in 1999, mentored by Deb Margolin, of the groundbreaking feminist experimental theater group Split Britches. Since then she has fashioned herself a comedic monologuist, with countless solo appearances and five full-length shows under her belt: Tar Baby, 52 Man Pickup, The Sit-Down Show, Careless and Greatest Hits. Her writing is poetic, elegant and insightful, with a comedic bite that is both down-to-earth and divine. She is internationally known as funny, sexy, irreverent, daring honest and compelling in her performances.
In addition to her full-length work, which has graced Joe’s Pub, Ars Nova, The Ohio Theatre, Galapagos Art Space, Dixon Place, The Theater Offensive and the New York, New Orleans, Hollywood, Camden (UK) and Edinburgh Fringe festivals, she has performed as an emcee for various events, including the first Weimar/New York performance at Joe’s Pub, Roe on the Rocks at Bowery Ballroom (featuring Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Ra Ra Riot), Brown Girls Burlesque at Le Poisson Rouge and Election Night 2008 at The New Museum. She regularly books clubs, theaters, corporate events and private functions.
