Teaching & Workshops

Desiree is a graduate of Yale University with a B.A. in Theatre Studies, and has been working as a writer and performer in New York City for 10 years.  She has also trained  and worked as a Master Teaching Artist with the American Place Theatre from 2005-2011, where she toured the country as a facilitator and educator with the Literature to Life program which presents verbatim adaptations of modern classics like The Secret Life of Bees, Black Boy, The House on Mango Street, The Kite Runner, Three Cups of Tea, The Giver, The Things They Carried, and more.

She has taught workshops in the Neo-Futurist theater aesthetic to young writers of various skill levels, and was even able to present this program to Elementary and Middle School students through Queens Theatre in the Park, helping these students create and perform honest, original work.

She currently works as a private tutor with A-List Services in Manhattan. She enjoys augmenting her personal creative and learning process by igniting it in others.

Desiree has also worked with such venerable educational institutions as Harlem Children’s Zone, Kent Prep and The Knowledge Project.  She been a New York Neo-Futurist since 2003 and a solo performance artist since 2000.  She has advised other solo performance artists in their process through the Fourth Arts Block Mentoring Program, and offers workshops and private coaching in creative writing, comedy, solo performance and acting.
